Introduction:
My name is Nerisa Pampilo, a Media Coordinator at Aurelian Springs Institute of Global Learning here in Halifax County, North Carolina. I would take this course as an opportunity for our students to explore and learn about real-world problems including important issues that affect them and how can they be able to alleviate the problems in their own ways. We will focus on the root causes of hunger and relate hunger and poverty with other problems that are inter-connected or intertwined with each other. That will be the big questions that my students will study and investigate further about the connectivity of each problem from one issue to the other that they have to understand and be familiar with to help them create a global mindset and empathy towards people’s different situations around the world.

Description and Documentation:
We started using CNN 10 to brainstorm about some world problems presented in the news and then the students watched a video about solving world problems using bird's eye view just to continue brainstorming about world problems and how the technology, "drones" can gather various unknown information and unveil the conditions of the problems. I provided a graphic organizer for them to fill-up after they identify the world problems presented in the video. We also focused on hunger problems and determine the root causes and solutions and analyze why food won't only solve hunger problems. The best part of our lessons was when students were able to make reflection after they accomplished their research. They were able to develop self-awareness, curiosity, and empathy with people's unique and diverse situations throughout the world. We also continued to use CNN 10 each day to know what is going on around the world and then talked about some issues and problems presented in the video. I also used several Ted Talk from youtube to expose our students with the sustainable development goals and tied them up with issues and problems around the world and what they can do to make the world a better place. I also provided an individual reflection from google doc to allow the students to examine themselves as inspired by "Kids are Heroes" article to support their own advocacy to be an agent of change to make a better place.

Reflection:
I felt that there is still so much to do with my students along with promoting understanding of sustainable development goals to be able to solve or minimize if not alleviate our world problems. I should continue to discuss these huge topics with them and continue on and on to find specific examples and situations where they can relate to the topic. We were able to cover hunger problems and find out some common root causes and solutions but the most interesting part was that the students were able to reflect themselves on what can they do to start themselves to promote solutions with other students. The students made interesting reflections about what they can do to make a difference in the community and many of them have developed a change of hearts towards the needs of other people and realize that we are connected with the world and that we can't alienate ourselves with others. They also agreed that there are too many that need to be done to achieve Zero Hunger goals throughout the world. It should start within ourselves to have a change of hearts to care for other people and take courage to stand for ourselves to make a difference with a new mindset and strong desire to help other people in need. Feedback from KM
Hi Nerisa! I am excited to see that you took this course. I will be taking a look at your work, and I would love to offer you some feedback.
I see that you have started a collection with resources to help support the work within your classroom. Aren't the resources through The Worlds Largest Lesson simply awesome?
****Thanks, and I can't wait for your feedback in this module.
Thank you for sharing your description with me! The goal for this course is to integrate real-world global issues into your academic curriculum. You were able to demonstrate this in the work you described. You've created many different opportunities for your students to explore this work. I think the best component of all of this is the reflective piece. It's wonderful to see that you're teaching your students that they do not have to wait until they are older to start creating change right now! Is this work something you are doing in conjunction with another classroom or school? I would love to see the student work and reflection. Unfortunately, the sharing feature is set to private. Could you update this to "anyone with the link" can view? I also requested access if that is easier. I've returned your product so you can make that adjustment. Please let me know when you're ready for me to continue. Thanks, Nerisa.
I can see it now. Thanks so much for making that adjustment, Nerisa. Wow! I am so impressed with the work you've done with the students! Now that you have created a strong background on the Global Goals for your students, what will be your next step to continue this work? I would love to hear more about your plans! Thank you for sharing your work with me. Congratulations! I have awarded you a badge for your work with this course.
****Thanks a lot and have a wonderful evening to you!
Congratulations! KM has awarded a badge for completing Transform Our World: The Global Goals.
