Hello, Ana Belen Molina. I am Nerisa Pampilo. I will be reviewing your Learning Product for You Belong Here: Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning in a Global Classroom. I am looking forward to working with you in this module. Thanks. Student Work/Reflection I find it interesting to sit in your class while you read with your kids and tackle the lesson about the different cultures in those countries found in the books that your students are reading. I can tell that your students are eager to learn despite some difficulty. You have a good command of the language that you are teaching with them. Just continue to explore some resources for them to enhance their global competencies such as empathy, global-mindedness, and connection. I like that you put emphasis or strong value on learning about the world or other countries and by doing so you were able to develop your students' curiosity and global knowledge and understanding which was deliberate or more intentional in the video of your student reflection. Final Reflection These were your comments when I asked you to tell me more about your lesson in your final reflection: First of all, showed my students a world map, i asked them where is my country located, they pointed on the map and said South America. Then I told them what is going to be the story about. There were three characters in the story (Katie, Niko and Chakira) Each of them live in a different country and continent. Children had to read and say what activities they do in each country. Then I asked them some questions about the story and after that each of them had to point on the map the countries mentioned in the story. It was a nice activity because they had tons of questions about the countries and it was a great opportunity to talk about the traditions and cultures. Apparently, you were able to provide your students' opportunities to explore and investigate the countries you have focused in your lesson and learn cultural diversity from the story that your students were reading with the three characters who live in different countries. It was evident in your lesson that your students were able to conduct introspection into their lives and think of how their culture and tradition relates to how they live. This activity will greatly help shape your students' global mindedness and their connection to the world, and also promote empathy and curiosity about the world. Congratulations! I am glad to award you a badge for your hard work in this module. Thanks for all you do and please continue to mold the minds of your students to enhance their global competencies. |
Hi, Jennifer! I am Nerisa. In a moment I will be reviewing your Learning Product of You Belong Here: Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning in a Global Classroom. I look forward to working with you in this module. Thanks. You have created a sufficient collection of resources to support you as you teach your lessons to your students. Thanks, and please let me know if need more assistance. Hi, Jennifer. My apologies for calling you Kelly. Kindly go back to your google doc on your lesson plan to change the sharing the link access to "Whoever has the link can view" so that I would be able to view your lesson to proceed with the next category of your Learning Product. Thanks, and please let me know if need more assistance. Lesson Plan Your lesson has provided with meaningful opportunities to your students to gather information about their cultural heritage by completing a cultural heritage survey with the support of family members, creating their individual heritage person to share to their classmates and making a class heritage graph. These are possibilities for them to develop their knowledge and understanding about cultural diversity which will certainly allow them to unwrap global competencies such as empathy, global mindedness, and connection. Student Work It was evident in the work of your students that you gave them opportunities to discover cultural differences among themselves to be able to know and understand the world better. It is true that they have to unravel their own identities first before others. Knowing themselves first is crucial in developing global competencies to enhance their cultural and global mindedness and connection, empathy and respect for the people around the world. Student Reflection It was noteworthy to see how your students have recognized the importance of knowing others as knowing about the world. I was also impressed by how your students have uncovered their commonality and uniqueness among themselves as expressed by one's culture and tradition that has brought them to enhance their knowledge and understanding about the world around them. Final Reflection Apparently, you appeared to have some promising thought about your desire to continue impacting to your students the relevance of continuing to teach your students about cultural and global mindedness, empathy and respect of individual's culture which was a very significant gesture to having a culturally responsive classroom. I like that you have contemplated the iceberg illustration so that you can continue to discover a new way of unraveling the cultural understanding of your students by looking for those unseen parts of cultural heritage such as beliefs, values, morals, etc. then just teaching the typical aspects such as food, music, clothing, etc. I appreciate you when you said that it would have been great if you have the lesson in a culturally responsive global classroom at the beginning of the year than having it the spring. Having been said that was tantamount to acknowledging that you can also adapt better approaches and encourage better results and responses and outcome for your students to explore, investigate and enhance their knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity among your students and the world in general. Congratulations! I have awarded you a badge for your hard work in this module. Thanks for all you do and please continue to mold the minds of your students to enhance their global competencies. Comment from Kelly: Thank you for the kind words and the badge! You are very much welcome, Jennifer! Good luck in everything you do for your students. |
