Please go back to your collection so that you can add resources in conjunction with your lesson plan. I can only view a copy of your lesson plan using the link you provided but I don't see any resources that would help you with your lesson. I would appreciate it very much if you can add three or more in your stack. Thanks. Lesson Plan Currently, I am looking at your lesson plan and I notice that you didn't respond to the "Self- Assessment -Use this section to reflect in writing on how this lesson will support academic learning and development of global competencies". Please go back to your google doc and edit your lesson plan. Thanks. Subsequently, please fill-up also the title of your lesson plan and tell something more about your objectives and compelling questions. Maybe, you can include the type of songs they should be studying. If you have a specific country of your choice or your student's choice, you have to indicate that to your objectives. You have to edit the following items: title, learning objectives, ask compelling questions, curated resources - what are the resources you use for your students to investigate the songs they write about, then lastly, I need you to go back also to the last part of the lesson plan "Reflect and Revise"- explain here how your students will make their reflection about the song or does the song have impact on their lives or does it connect to their everyday lives. Thanks. Hi, Angela. Let me share this sample lesson plan link so that you can also refer this to fill-up your self-assessment column and the rest of category. In the meantime, I am going to start working with your student work and student reflection so that by the time you are ready with the lesson plan using a Participate template, I can already award you with the badge. Thanks! Thank you for your compliance of using the Participate template for your lesson plan. How Would You Respond First, let me commend you for sharing what transpired in your classroom before you tackle your lesson about the Winter Olympics. It was great that you were able to touch base with your students some relevant information about Honduras as your country located in Central America where you came from before you got here in the United States. That was also significant to clarify some issues or misrepresentation about your country in the minds of your students so in that way you uncovered some cultural aspects to them especially when you incorporated information like food, outfits, activities and even schools. Lesson Plan You have an interesting lesson about studying the games of the Winter Olympics that you impart to your students. I can tell that they enjoyed watching those videos and making research about sports that they are interested in the Winter Olympics or winter games. It was great that you were able to provide the research journal to highlight the games that they have to focus on their investigation. I like that you set high expectations for your students in studying the different sports in the Spanish language. In this lesson, you allowed your students to conduct an introspection of their lives so that they can relate themselves with different countries and people who participated in the Winter Olympics. Student Work The writing activity gave your students an opportunity to discover themselves and foster self-awareness, curiosity, global mindedness and connection as they unwrapped their own perspective of the different kinds of sports they were exploring and investigating in the Winter Olympics. I was certain that you have led them quite well in accomplishing their research in the Spanish language as shown in your student work. Student Reflection I like that you submitted an individual reflection of your students about the sports they like or interested in the Winter Olympics. It allows them to think deeply while writing their responses in Spanish. It was a meaningful learning experience that you've provided to your students to uncover their personal identities and preferences, self-awareness, and connection with the world. It was tantamount to unraveling your students' cultural diversity, curiosity, and global mindedness. Final Reflection At the outset, it wasn't simple to correlate your lesson with unique possibilities to support your students to explore and investigate further their personal identity as you gather responses from them about the sports they like in the Winter Olympics. Now, I encourage you to do follow-up activities so that you can provide ample opportunities to allow your students to dig deeper to discover and understand themselves and develop global competencies. Good job also that you were able to extend their knowledge and understanding about the different sports in the Winter Olympics to the different issues and problems faced by the participating countries in pursuing their dreams which promotes empathy with your students. Congratulations! I am glad to award you a badge for your work in this module. Thanks for all you do and please continue to mold the minds of your students to enhance their global competencies. ***Thank you very much for all your comments and suggestion I really appreciate them. You are welcome. The pleasure is mine, Maria! |

You can search for resources to add by typing your topic in the top search bar. Thanks again! Currently, I was able to access your updated collection in your profile because there's something wrong with the link that you provided in your Learning Product, it won't come up but it's okay I got it. Thanks, Courtney! I find it engaging for your students to explore and conduct an investigation of the country of Peru as shown in your student work on the wall. I like that you included the holidays of Peru as part of your lesson so that they can conduct an introspection of their lives and find out if there are similarities of the Peruvian's culture with that of the Americans aside from its landforms and its capital. You have the opportunity to uncover various aspects of their culture and traditions when you integrate food, clothing, fun activities and more. I hope that you touch base those topics so that you can dig deeper your student's knowledge and understanding of the Peruvians' culture and traditions. I like that you included the interesting facts about Peru and animals of Peru in your student reflection which were crucial in allowing them to think critically and show their preference and choices for that category. You can unwrap possibilities for them to examine themselves and respect other people's differences in thoughts, ideas and or perspective about things. It was good enough that your students were excited and had enjoyed learning about Peru. I figured that was too interesting for them to learn different country and compare and contrast it with the United States. It was also significant for the students to be able to share their cultural heritage with their peers so that they were able to develop self-awareness and respect for other people's unique attributes, culture, and traditions. Good job, Courtney! Congratulations! I am glad to award you a badge for your work in this module. Please continue to work with your students to enhance their global competencies. Congratulations! Hello, Laurie. I am Nerisa Pampilo, a member of the peer review team for Participate. I work at the elementary school here in North Carolina. I will be reviewing your Learning Product for You Belong Here: Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning in a Global Classroom. I am looking forward to working with you in this module. Lesson Plan Apparently, you have provided sufficient opportunities for your students to explore and investigate the culture and traditions of the Maasai people in East Africa by those stories you availed for them to read. I like that you seemed to have given your students a choice on which book to read which allows them to conduct an introspection of their lives to relate themselves with the lessons or morals that they have identified in the story. Your students will have ample possibilities to develop self-awareness and intercultural knowledge and understanding while reading one of the stories. ****Yes, we've been studying Tanzania all year and they've learned quite a bit. It's nice to be able to connect them to other cultures (we don't have a very diverse population here). You have unraveled your students' reflection in your students' work when they established a connection of their lives to the morals they got from the story. It was quite revealing for me to realize that many of your students might have invalidated their connection to the story but in reality, they already have recognized some qualities or character traits they need to improve or change in their lives. As they complied with the prompt you indicated in your lesson plan, they assumed responsibility to be reflective of the questions you have provided in the prompt. Just make sure to follow-up their responses and continue to look for avenues for your students to dig deeper to discover their identities and cultural background from the stories they have read because in that way you can promote self-awareness, respect of cultural diversity, global mindedness and connection to the society and the world in general. Final Reflection I like that you have the goal of developing your students into responsible citizens by molding them to become leaders at your school. I am glad that you take time to focus on the tenets of life revealed by the various characters of the story that needs to be nurtured in your students so that they can broaden their outlook and mindset of things and expectations toward people, develop empathy and respect of people's diverse culture and traditions. Congratulations, Laurie! I have awarded you a badge for your work in this module. Thanks for all you do and please continue to mold the minds of your students to enhance their global competencies. |
