Hello, Kelly. I am Nerisa, a member of the peer review team for Participate. I work at the elementary school here in North Carolina. I will be reviewing your Learning Product for You Belong Here: Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning in a Global Classroom. I look forward to working with you in this module. Please go back to your collection because I can't find anything in it. Your collection is empty. You can also check the link if you missed anything or you may explore again the resources at Participate and then add them to your collection. Thanks. Generally, we like to see at least three resources or more inside a collection. You can add resources to your collection by clicking on the red plus symbol inside the collection feature. You can search for resources to add by typing your topic in the top search bar. Thanks and please let me know if you need anything to get you started with building your collection. Lesson Plan Subsequently, you can also verify the permission to access your lesson plan because I was unable to view it with your link or you may download your work as a PDF or word doc and add it to your collection if you are unable to do it due to your school or district restrictions. After you’ve done that, be sure to send me a message to let me know using the “Join the discussion” feature on this page. Thanks! Thanks for submitting your student’s work! To complete all course requirements, I’d love to see a brief student reflection. For more on this, check out this video: https://participate.wistia.com/medias/sg7yh1dpgfTo edit the work, you will revisit the course (in your “courses” tab and choose the "edit your work" option under the “Checkpoint: submit student work” section. There, you can replace the link, and then click "save and finish”, and then “submit work for review”. Thanks, and please let me know if you have any questions! Finally, I was able to access your collection and your lesson plan on "Expanding our Global Competency". Now, I am trying to reconcile your collection stack with your lessons but I can't find the connection in any of your topics or subject matters within your lesson plan. Most of your collection was about the snake in Asia but you didn't include snake or animals in your topics of exploration about culture. Please revisit your collection and add resources to your collection by clicking on the red plus symbol inside the collection feature. You can search for resources to add by typing your topic in the top search bar. Thanks! Emailed: Please update your collection by adding resources from Participate so that I can proceed with giving feedback on your next category. Make sure that you will have resources in conjunction with your lesson plan. Thanks, and please let me know if there is anything that I can help you. Hi, Kelly. I notice that you haven’t made updates to your learning product. I wanted to check back with you to make sure you didn’t have any questions. I would love to see you be able to complete this work. Please update first your collection in conjunction with your lesson plan. Thanks! Hi, Kelly. I have received your email, and I am happy to assist you with your concern. First, go back to your collection in your dashboard on "Karalunas You Belong Here: Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning in a Global Classroom" and add three or more resources in conjunction with your lesson plan. I like to see at least three resources or more inside a collection. You can add resources to your collection by clicking on the red plus symbol inside the collection feature. You can search for resources to add by typing your topic in the top search bar. After that, visit your Learning Product page and "join the discussion" to write a brief student reflection or you can also talk about your lesson and how your students have reflected or been impacted with your lesson. Thanks. I am glad that you already updated your collection. Thanks! Student Work I like that you have given your students opportunities to discover their cultural differences. It was evident in the student work that you allowed them to explore and investigate their cultural heritage which was very relevant to develop self-awareness and respect for people's attributes or background. They were able to conduct an introspection of their lives as shown in your student work and the prompt you provided in your lesson plan which became very influential to promote empathy with your students in the class and consequently to people in the society and the world in general. Student Reflection I like that you made it intentional for your students to uncover relevant facts about themselves as shown in the pictures of your student work so that they can examine themselves through their family background. I am glad that you allowed them to think and reflect upon this question, “I used to think...but now I think…" as an exit ticket during your discussion with your students as they compare themselves with others which were a good reflection piece. I found it significant that you provided prompts in your lesson plan that students need to comply so make sure that you follow-up with them their responses. Your lesson was a good start for you to convey to your students to develop self-awareness, empathy, and global mindedness and connection to the society and the world in general.. Final Reflection I am glad that you realized that global integration can happen in any subject area. You also said that the lesson can be done in depth or in a simple way whereby your students would still be able to develop self-awareness and enhance their knowledge and understanding of people's cultural diversity. It was also significant that you were able to learn and understand your student's differences better by their thoughts and ideas when they uncover their similarities and differences depicting their culture and traditions. Congratulations! I have awarded you a badge for your work in this module. Thanks for all you do and please continue to mold the minds of your students to enhance their global competencies. |

You have created a sufficient collection of resources to support you as you teach inquiry-based learning lessons with your students about Australian culture. Apparently, you are focusing on the different animals in Australia in your collection. It was also notable that you included a valuable resource from Participate in comparing and contrasting animals in Australia and in the United States which will help you achieve the objectives of your lesson. Momentarily, you can also verify your answer to the question on "How would you respond? right after the collection link or you can make your comments in the join the discussion. Thanks! Lesson Plan Your lesson has immensely covered significant topics relevant to studying the culture of Australia. The 5 regions or areas of Australia focusing on people, animals, instruments, places, and art will allow the students to explore and investigate the cultural aspects of Australia. It would be crucial to engage the students in a meaningful inquiry-based approach learning as they differentiate their findings of Australia to that of the United States so that they will be able to enhance their global competencies. Student Work It was evident in your students' works that you have provided ample opportunities for your students to study, explore, and investigate the different areas of Australia. You have established a more engaging activity with your students when you allowed them to present their work during the International Festival Presentation at your school. They have earned a sense of ownership of their work, knowledge, and understanding of other countries, curiosity, global mindedness, empathy and connection that will definitely enhance their global competencies after having to work especially the cultural aspects of the lesson. Student Reflection You have unraveled your students' reflection in your students' work when they try to compare their findings of the culture of Australia. As they studied the different regions or areas of Australia in the different aspects on focused to compare them with American culture, I felt that you made them intentional so that as your students uncovered those facts about Australia they will be able to find several things depicting the culture arising from their works presented on your students' works. Apparently, you conveyed to your students to become aware of cultural diversity, empathy, and global mindedness and connection to the society and the world in general. Final Reflection I love that you are able to become conscientious of the ways to incorporate global learning into your everyday instruction which was a significant learning component in working with your students. I encourage you to continue having such engaging activities beyond the four walls of the classroom so that you can unwrap more possibilities to develop your students' global competencies and potentials to understand the world they live in. Congratulations I have awarded you a badge for your hard work! Thanks for all you do and please continue to mold and inspire these young minds. |
